Finished getting the vertical mounted and riveted the front joiner and spacer to the spar. Got the holes into the Horizontal drilled to final size, and bolted down as well.

Next it was time to work on the Elevator horns and get them drilled.
Unlike some other builders, our horns were pretty well in line with each other and the hole for the pushrod end ended up perfect.

Prepping the Vertical Stab to be mounted. Here it’s in place with just the locating hole and the front spar clamped in place.
Drilling the final bolt holes.
All done for now. Close up shot of it bolted on. Next up is the front attach.
I trimmed the Front Spar VS-702 as the instructions said, but s you can see in the photo, I had an issue with the edge distance on the bottom rivets….
So I decided to fabricate a whole new joiner.

Finished joiner, primed and ready to be installed.

Here we are aligning the vertical, making sure it’s not canted off to one side.

Spent time getting the Elevators and Rudder attached.
As expected, Had to trim HS603pp to make clearance for the elevator horns.

While I was waiting for a second set of hands to help with bucking rivets today, I started on the Vertical Stabilizer. Here is a shot of it while working my way from top to bottom.

Once help arrived and since we were on a roll, we decided to finish the Vertical Stabilizer instead of going back to the Horizontal. Here’s a shot of the Vertical almost before it was completed.

Finished off the match drilling of the Rudder stiffeners and finished off the priming for the Vertical stabilizer.
Spent most of the day finishing up the deburring and dimpling on the Vertical Stabilizer so I can take them home and prime.
Most of the Vertical Stab parts almost ready to be cleaned and primed.

Work also started on the Rudder, which consisted of cutting and prepping the 16 different stiffeners that get riveted to the Rudder.
The picture shows the rough lines drawn out where the stiffeners need to be cut.

I rough cut the stiffeners with a pair of snips and then hit them with the belt sander to get the bevels straight. Afterwards it was over to the Scotchbrite wheel to round off the edges. The photo below shows the stiffeners after being rough cut with the snips.

Spent more time priming the rest of the parts for the right side of the Horizontal. Quick shot of some of the ribs and stiffener.

In addition to the priming, it was time to start deburring, dimpling and prepping the Vertical stabilizer for primer.
Today was the start of the Vertical Stabilizer assembly. The vertical definitely went together much faster now that I’ve had experience with the horizontal.
In the photo below I’ve clecoed the spar doubler and hinge brackets to the rear spar.

After fluting the ribs, assembly starts by clecoing the rear and front spars to the ribs.

Assembled and ready for the skins to be cleco’d on.
The skin has been put on and I’m starting to add clecos.
